How To Stay Cool In Las Vegas This Summer

The reason so many people seek out a Las Vegas pool party is because it gets ridiculously hot in the summer. Around July, Sin City can even reach upwards of 110 degrees Fahrenheit (that’s 43 Celsius for our international friends). With temperatures that high, it is important to know how to stay cool and comfortable in Las Vegas. This is especially true for families with children or elderly members who might be at risk for overheating!

If you need a general run down of how to stay cool in Las Vegas during the Spring, Summer, and even the Fall – Taste Buzz has you covered. We’ve rounded up the best tips on what to wear, places to cool off, and Las Vegas pool parties to help make your next trip the best one yet. As an added bonus, we’ve added 5 awesome tips for picking the best place in town to spend your time!

How to Stay Cool In Las Vegas This Summer

Step One: Bring a Refillable Water Bottle

You are going to want to stay hydrated when visiting Las Vegas. In addition to the heat, being in the middle of the desert means it is also incredibly dry. Add a few adult beverages to the mix and this could quickly become a serious situation for travelers.

You can purchase water from most shops along the Strip but if you want to save money, consider bringing a refillable water bottle. Then, you can fill up at any of the free water stations throughout the city. One thing to note is that most people in Vegas use double-insulated bottles to keep their drinks nice and cool throughout the day!

Traveler Tip: Water in Vegas is safe to drink so you can always fill up at your hotel but if you need a refill while out and about, no stress! The Watermap app is great for any travelers looking to save on the cost of water while helping out the environment!

Step Two: Wear Light, Comfortable Layers

During the summer, temperatures in Las Vegas get pretty hot during the day but can quickly cool off at night depending on the day. To avoid getting too hot or too cold, try packing light layers for your trip. These can also act as a protective layer between your skin and the sun when it is at its brightest. For added comfort, look for moisture-wicking items that will help keep you dry as well.

Step Three: Protect Yourself From the Sun

One of the worst feelings on vacation is having a bunch of fun things to do in Las Vegas but not being able to go because of a bad sunburn. To stay comfortable, make sure to bring sunscreen and reapply throughout the day.

Another great option is to bring a hat and sunglasses to keep your eyes out of the sun. Trust us, it is much better to be prepared than to miss out on fun activities in Las Vegas due to a sunburn.

Step Four: Plan Where To Go If It Gets Too Hot

While walking along the Strip in Vegas, it is nice to get out of the heat and into an air-conditioned space. Some spots to cool off quickly are the casinos and resorts along the Strip.

Check out the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens for a free activity to enjoy inside. While you are cooling off, you can walk around and see beautiful floral displays set up as imaginative art installations. If you want even more information on this beautiful exhibit, consider taking our Secrets of the Strip Foodie Tour. The tour takes you through the garden while giving you the inside scoop behind the displays!

Step Five: Head to A Las Vegas Pool Party

It wouldn’t be Vegas without an insanely fun Las Vegas pool party. Whether you are looking to do something low-key like read a book in a cabana or dance to a set by a famous Vegas DJ, there is a poolside experience for everyone.

Tips For Finding The Best Places For Cooling Off In Vegas

Tip #1 Pick A Fun Las Vegas Pool Party Based On Your Group

When looking for Las Vegas pool parties or just a pool in general, it is important to note that each pool offers a different experience. Some are better for families looking for wholesome fun while others might be better for bachelor and bachelorette parties looking to let loose. Here are our top picks for a few different types of Las Vegas pool parties:

#2 Enjoy A Local Favorite: Ice Cream Shops

One of the best things to do in Las Vegas when it is hot out is grab a deliciously cool ice cream. A local favorite is Sweet Sin for a unique ice cream and macaron experience. Iwalani’s is another fun spot that serves up Hawaiian shaved ice all over town. You can stay up to date with where their truck will be by checking out their Instagram feed. If you are looking to try a Korean fish waffle ice cream cone, you could also head to the famous SomiSomi in Chinatown!

#4 Relax By A Nearby Las Vegas Lake

A fun activity off the Vegas Strip that locals love is to head to a nearby lake and cool off. The most popular one is Lake Mead thanks to its sunset boat cruises that take you up close and personal with the Hoover Dam. There is also the famous Emerald Cave to explore for people who love a great adventure! This is a fun place to stop and dip in for a quick swim

If you are looking for a safe place for kids and older family members to swim, Sparks Marina is a great option. This family-friendly spot has a designated swimming area with a lifeguard on duty to give parents a little more peace of mind.

Finally, Laughlin is a great spot to swim around for those who like mixing in a little adventure. About an hour and 45 minutes out from Las Vegas, this action-packed area has places where you can jump on a jet-ski, take a walk around the water and then take a dip to cool off.

#5 Go Old School At A Las Vegas Skating Rink

Skating might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Las Vegas, but it is definitely worth checking out. There is the Crystal Palace Skating Center for those looking to embrace a 90s-style roller rink. If you are looking to really chill out, try heading to the Pepsi Ice Arena or Las Vegas Ice Center. They offer public skate times and lessons for all levels!
