The Dos And Don’ts Of A Las Vegas Food Tasting

No matter where you are, there is something very clear: humans love their food. Can you blame them? Food is pretty awesome! You can’t truly get to know a place without getting to know its tastes. And what better way to get to know a place like Las Vegas than with a Las Vegas food tasting. If you’re getting ready to go on one but aren’t really sure how to get the most out of it, don’t worry. Here we’ve got some common dos and don’ts so that you can have your best LV experience.

Do: Be In The Moment

Your food tour is an experience for you to step out of the everyday and into an evening of relaxation and fun. The only thing you need to think about is how cool the area is, where you’re going to eat next, and what your favorite bite to eat has been so far.

#1 Rated Las Vegas Food Tour

Turn your mind off to outside problems and focus on the here and now. How do you do that? There are a few ways:

  • Take in your surroundings, notice the way things look, take mental snapshots.
  • Be grateful for the moment. Drink in the fact that you’re in Las Vegas and your most pressing need right now is savoring food. It’s an adventure!
  • Savor the food. Focus on the way it smells, the way it tastes, the way it looks. You’re eating for pleasure tonight, not survival.

We’ll cover one of the most major ways to live in the moment in the next step, which is:

Don’t: Spend The Night On Your Phone

Take a break from the screen. Don’t give yourself any reason to mentally be anywhere else than where you are in that moment.

  • Turn it on silent.
  • If you’re going to take it out, make sure it’s only to take a photo of the food or yourself and your family and friends or the sites around you.
  • Turn off all notifications from social media or unnecessary apps.
  • Unless it’s an emergency, don’t worry about texting or calling – those messages will be there when you get back.

To quote Tom Stevenson on Medium.com: “So much wonder, joy and beautiful sights exist in the wider world. We are surrounded by amazing things every[sic] we go, but we are often too invested in our smartphones to appreciate that.”

When you’re on a food tour, be on a food tour. Eliminate the distraction of your cell phone and instead focus on the face-to-face connections that you’ll end up talking about for ages to come.

Do: Stay Hydrated

Even though you’re going to be stopping at a few food joints, this is still a walking tour in Las Vegas. Since it is a desert climate, it’s important to make sure that you’re staying hydrated so you can stay comfortable and feel good as we go along.

Humans are made up of about 60% water, and it is recommended that you drink eight 8oz glasses of water every day (more so if you’ve been physically active or in warm temperatures). Doing so will lead to better body temperature control, greater motivation, and more energy.

Make sure that you bring a water bottle with you to sip on as we go between establishments and you can always get drinks at the different restaurants where we stop. So long as you’re taking in fluids, you’re going to do great!

Don’t: Come On A Full Stomach

It would be counterintuitive to grab a bite to eat before showing up on a food tasting but nevertheless, it’s worth mentioning. Over the course of your tour, you’ll get the chance to stop at a few eateries here in Las Vegas, and we assure you that you’re going to want room to taste all of them.

If you do feel like you need something to tide you over until you reach the first location, then something small, like a granola bar or some fruit, will suffice.

Do: Wear Comfortable Shoes

We know, it’s Las Vegas, the Entertainment Capital of the World, but don’t break out your high heels for your walking food tour. Wear something that you won’t mind doing a little bit of traversing in between stops.

When it comes to footwear, we recommend something like the following:

  • Tennis shoes
  • Flats
  • Cushioned sandals

You don’t want to give yourself a blister because you opted for something not suited for a walking food tour. Don’t worry, though, we’ll take plenty of time at each stop in order to let you rest and enjoy yourself.

Don’t: Be Picky

Come prepared to step outside of your culinary comfort zone. Don’t worry, we’re not going to make you try anything weird. But this isn’t just a tour, it’s an adventure. This is your chance to try what might become some of your new favorite dishes, but in order to do that, you’re going to have to try it first.

Go on a food tour with an open mind to all the new things you’re going to try. Shake off preconceived ideas of what you’ll like and what you won’t. Even if you just try one bite, then you’ll know for sure and you won’t have to wonder if you might have.
