Hi Friends!
I would like to share with you some of my favorite places to enjoy a cocktail on the Las Vegas Strip. Most of you will spend the majority of your stay on Las Vegas Blvd., so hopefully, you can find at least one of my recommendations helpful.
Let me start out by explaining that there are a gazillion places to get a drink in Vegas. There are so many bars, clubs, lounges, and restaurants in the city, so it’s all a matter of personal preference. For this article, I’m going to focus on adult lounges, because this is my favorite type of place to enjoy a drink when I’m spending an evening out on the Strip.
An adult lounge is a place where someone would go that wants to enjoy an adult beverage, typically in an upscale environment and sometimes with live entertainment. You still want to have fun and get dressed up, yet it is more laid back than a nightclub. You must be 21 years or older, so make sure you bring your ID!
Rosina at the Palazzo
Rosina is a small, seductive lounge with a sexy setting of dim lights, burgundy velvet booths and crystal beaded lamps. The menu features an array of classic cocktails like a Gimlet, Manhattan, Whiskey Sour, Mint Julep and many others which ties in with the 1920’s theme. Wanna try a modern twist to these classics? Ask the bartender to make you one of their specialty cocktails on their secret menu.
Rosina is the most intimate of the three Sam Ross cocktail bars inside the Venetian and the Palazzo. If you’re feeling a little wild after your first libation, make your way over to the resorts’ other cocktail lounges, Electra Cocktail Club or the Dorsey, where you can enjoy the same high-quality cocktails with a more energetic atmosphere. Let loose by dancing the night away to the beats of the live DJ.
The Chandelier Bar at the Cosmopolitan
Possibly the most eye-catching bar in all of Las Vegas, you can’t miss this three-story cocktail lounge wrapped in dangling diamond beads as you walk through the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino. Each level (level 1, 1.5, and 2) has a different menu and a different atmosphere, so depending on your mood, you can try one – or all three!
The signature cocktails that you’ll find here are unlike any other, using ingredients and spirits that are unfamiliar to the average person and boast clever names like “Whiskey Business,” “Keep Your Pansies On” and “Glitch in the Matrix.” So even if you’ve never heard of Sochu, Pavan liqueur, Kalamansi Sour, or Queen Bay Seasoning, go ahead and order “Becky with the Good Hair.” The drinks are delicious. Trust me…or better yet, trust your bartender!
The secret cocktail to try here would be the Verbena. It’s a play on a Margarita and comes with an edible flower, the Szechuan Button. After you take a sip of the drink, you’re going to eat the flower. (Yes, you need to eat the flower to experience this drink!) Chew the flower really well, swallow, and then take another sip of your drink. You’ll get this tingling, fizzing sensation that changes the dynamic and elevates your senses. The Verbena is not on the menu and if you can’t remember the name when it’s time to order, just ask for the flower drink.
SkyBar at the Waldorf Astoria
Located in the heart of Las Vegas Blvd. on the 23rd floor is the SkyBar at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, you can dazzle over the beautiful view of the Las Vegas Strip while sipping on your cocktail.
The seasoned mixologists that work behind the bar, put together some of the fanciest beverages in the industry for the SkyBar’s specialty cocktail menu. Being located inside one of the top hotels in the city, quality, service, ambiance, and the view are extraordinary. It’s no coincidence that this bar is known for celebrity sightings.
Start your evening here and delight in small bites with your cocktail as you watch the sunset and the bright lights of the city ignite.
Mr. Coco at the Palms
Okay, so this one is not quite located on the Strip but a short five minute drive away. The Palms Hotel and Casino recently went through renovations to become the locals’ place to go to when they want the luxury Las Vegas experience without having to deal with the hassle of the Strip. In addition to the new mega dayclub/nightclub and copious celebrity chef restaurants, the Palms included a swanky cocktail lounge on the 3rd floor that features nightly live piano performances.
Mr. Coco, named after the founder’s pooch, could very well be the most elegant cocktail lounge in the city. You’ll be greeted with an amuse-bouche cocktail upon entering, and your cocktail server models a sophisticated long black dress instead of the shorter more revealing style you’ll find at most venues on the Strip.
Spend an evening here and you’re likely to mingle with local industry bartenders, chefs, food bloggers, and hotel executives.
The Fireside Lounge at the Peppermill
The Fireside Lounge is not the typical adult lounge like the others mentioned above, but this is a definite MUST, in my opinion. The Fireside Lounge is located inside the Peppermill Restaurant, a standalone Las Vegas classic that is sure to fulfill your retro Vegas needs. The Peppermill is a hot spot for films, TV shows, and music videos. Fireside Lounge boasts a fun, comfy, and quirky atmosphere with neon lights, fuzzy booths, and a fireplace that reminds you of Old Vegas. Their menu displays a list of standard cocktails like an Alabama Slammer, Fuzzy Navel, Singapore Sling, and a Rusty Nail which are hard to find in our modern age of craft drinks.
Before heading back to your hotel room, make sure to grab breakfast at their 24-hour cafe which specializes in the large portions that were iconic to Vegas of the past.
Okay everyone, all of this writing has gotten me thirsty! It’s time for me to close my computer and get a drink. Do you have any suggestions for a lounge that you think I should visit?
